"Cottage By The Sea": My Art

Artist's Statement

My art work comes from my dreams, from the things I love and from a simple, natural song in my heart. I paint for the sake of art, for the celebration of color and for my own joy. My artwork is mostly done in oils and acrylics with the occasional water color. I will paint on anything that holds still, including canvas, nappy paper, walls, furniture and the occasional lamp shade.

My subjects are natural and simple, usually of children or animals, capturing a story or a memory. I enjoy a bold color pallet, as these are the colors I see in my dreams or when I close my eyes. Bold brushwork allows me to build vivid representations like rich tapestries in my own unique way.

I am mostly self taught and have been painting for 36 years. I constantly challenge myself to grow as an artist, reveling in slowing down and listening to a story. It doesn't have to be my story, it shouldn't. I hope to engage your imagination so you can envision your own story.

I studied briefly under the Water Color Artist, Evelyn Dunphy, in The Beara Peninsula West Cork, Ireland. My work there can be seen in my "Irish Series".
