Camera da letto misura per una principessa

Bedroom, fit for a Princess!

Remember my baby?  She just turned Sweet 16.  And, she is.  Most of the time.  She is after all, a teenager.  But as teenagers go, she's as sweet as they come.

Her bedroom is taking shape.  I thought you might like to see some of the touches we added since we moved in.  Don't tell her I showed you, but that's her childhood bunny, front and center.  Sixteen year olds know everything and are very mature and wise you know,  but they still love their Cuppy.

We used pine, planks on the walls, I white washed with a milky stain.  Her bed was my childhood bed (so it's definitely an antique)! Mosquito netting was hung because it's romantic and her mommy won't put screens on her windows since they look so pretty without them.  A fan was added onto her light, to assure that the netting blows gently in the breeze even when there isn't one outside

We moved back into our newly remodeled cottage by the sea a couple of weeks ago.  It took a very long time to remodel .  Waaay longer than expected;  about 8 months longer.  It's so beautiful and it is so awesome, to be back in my own bed that,  it was worth the wait.  Now I have a million little projects to do to make my house a home but, that's the part I love.  I'm a nester.  Now I'm having a ball re-feathering my nest!  I'm in my element here friends.

See up there, the beach 5th from the top?  That's where our cottage sits in the line of beautiful beaches, along our little part of the coast of Southern California.

Did I mention that my baby (youngest of 5) turned 16 last month?  Yeah, well when your baby turns 16 you're gonna talk about it too.  You know that nest I'm happily re-feathering?  In just a couple of years it will be empty, and I'm already worried about that.  I'm a worrier.  But anyhoo-

We had a  party to celebrate some of the July/August birthday's in our family.  It was also a good excuse to have some of the family over.  The handsome kid in the middle is my eldest son, Cooper.  He was born only 12 hours before his cousin Connor who stands on his left.  Twenty years ago, as I lay snuggling my new son, my mother-in-law and my oldest daughter Tara excitedly bounced into the room, stood at the foot of my bed and with conspiring little smiles on their faces, they informed me that my sister-in-law was giving birth at that very moment to her first son!  We ended up sharing a room in the same hospital, and while I gave her nursing tips; she showed me that there was a mirror in the fold out lunch tray with which you could see to apply your lipstick.  She's a girly girl, my sister-in-law.  She wears lipstick and high heels every day.  I wear flip flops and chap stick every day.  The cousins shared a bassinet however, when Cooper cried my sis-in-law pushed his little bassi right out into the hall so she could get some sleep.  Um, nurse, nurse?  Could you please bring my baby back?

I digress.  Camera da letto misura per una principessa, there is an extra bed.  It's a trundle bed just in case there are sisters  or cousins or friends who want to have a slumber party here.  There has been a slumber party here practically every night since we moved in.  My baby is a social butterfly.

The big comfy chair was not my idea.  It recently came out of storage, where I had blessedly forgotten all about it.  I begged and pleaded that, we  not put that godforsaken thing in this pretty, new bedroom find a worthy new home for this circa 1970s, well loved chair.  The more I begged, the more my girls loved that chair.  Apparently memories were forged on that chair.  Childhood bonds were created which, may be broken, lest that chair not have a place of honor in the bedroom again.  Mere acquaintances became the best of friends, hearts were healed, for God's sake you would think people had given birth on that chair.

The dog now sleeps there quite happily.

This chest of drawers was part of the master bedroom furniture pre remodel.  Since hers is such a large room, and we now have built-ins in ours,  Maggie inherited it.  With just a little white paint and some fun new knobs this bureau and mirror will take on the flavor of this room very soon.   I'll keep you updated,  it's a work in process at this point.  Maggie hand painted some of the shingles left over from the siding we used on the cottage.  Sweet little beach scenes in pretty water colors, seen there on the right of the bureau.

Don't look now, but be sure to come back later because, I'll be posting more on camera da letto misura per una principessa.  She has a darling little vanity which I am restoring and adding seashells to!

In the meantime always remember this.

Here then, I share with you, the sunset at Fletcher's Cove last night.
BLESSINGS!

Tia

Oh Tia! I am sooo happy you are finally able to start nesting. It's almost overwhelming though, isn't it? Everywhere you look you see something that you need to do, or should do, or could do ...it you only had about 4 more arms and 6 more hours in the day!

I love you sweet, beautiful daughter's room. She is a honey of a girl; I can tell by looking at her. We used that type of boarding in our last house on the stairwell that went up to a tower that overlooked Lake Michigan. We white washed it too. I loved the look but it was COLD feeling in our WI winters-when we were waist deep in snow and looking for warm colors. But for CA-absolutely perfect!

And the chair? Yeah..we had one of those too..we actually had TWO of those suckers. They now reside with my daughter in HER house (Thank you Lord)..I never could figure out the attachment to them...AND they have the same cream colored cushion covers. I think they were Pier One?

Thanks for blogging...I know how busy you are and I can't wait to see more and more of your Cottage By The Sea! I TOLD you it would be worth waiting for ;>) Diana

You have so much open space now, and lots of time and fun to fill it up. Enjoy! I love the photo of your "zen" water spout. I want one too. I also like the white washed pine planks. I saw that once in a cottage on Georgian Bay...each room had a different was on the walls, but all transparent over pine boards.
It makes for a peaceful, clean effect. Good job.

I'm so thrilled that you are back! I've been missing lately - Cait got a job, an apartment and we moved her up to Dallas. All this in 4 days time! Your daughter is cute as a bug, and her room is lovely. I just scrolled down to read the reveal post. Your home is fabulous! Do you pinch yourself every day to make sure it's real? I love all of your finish choices, just beautiful. Have fun feathering, we're off this weekend to finish feathering Cait's new nest. Kat

Very beautiful photos! Awesome bedroom. I grew up in southern CA, Buena Park to be exact. I miss it so much. My husband and I moved to TN for his job 3 years ago, and it's been tough for me to make new friends, but I am working on it. I am your newest follower. As I can enjoy CA through your eyes, for now. I hope to move back, someday.

I love reading your blog posts. That cousins birth story was great and I loved all the photos. My oldest daughter just turned 17 this week and she still sleeps with her Simba, but don't tell her I told you :-) She has sweet freckles like your daughter too. I just love those!
Blessings,
Marcia

Love her room!!! It's huge!!!!!! Bella saw netting similar to that and she's been wanting it ever since. But she has a bunkbed she shares with Cole so the netting will have to wait!

Your kids are beautiful!! The story about your SIL pushing Cooper's bassinet out into the hall cracked me up!!!

Love that bed! And having a spare for guests is so thoughtful, my sleepover friends had sleeping bags on the floor usually :)
