Cock-a-poos and spell checker

I'm writing a little post today for the love of dogs.  Write a post, help a dog!
Did you know that each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations? In response, PEDIGREE® created The PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.

This year the PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” The PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive onFacebook. So far, more than 1 million bowls have been donated!! The goal is for PEDIGREE® to be able to give a bowl of food to each and every one of the 4 million dogs in shelters and rescues by the end of the year.

The PEDIGREE® BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop from Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19 to help raise awareness for the “Write a post, help a dog” effort. They will be hosting a blog hop where you can add the url (that's the direct link) to your Write A Post Help a Dog so that they are all in one place and we can see just how big of an impact we all can have in the lives of shelter dogs.

For each blog that posts about the PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive through September 19th, PEDIGREE® will donate a bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. So please set aside a few moments to write a post.  AND, if you know bloggers in other categories that might be interested, please share this post with them and ask them to write a post as well!

Together, we can all make a difference!

Last time I wrote about my pups which happen to be a mix of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle, (usually called Cock-A-Poo's),  I spell checked my post, here is what I found:

Cock-A-Poo's
Cock-A-Boo's
Cock-A-Goo's
Cock-A-Moo's
Cock-A-Zoo's
Cock-A-Pro's
Cock-A-Pod's
Cock-A-Poi's
Cock-A-Pop's
Cock-A-Pot's
Cock-A-Polo's
Cock-A-Pool's

And, last but not least (in light of my last post, Poo-Poo Sacks And The Fate Of Shoes At The Beach) Poo-Poo Sacks And The Fate Of Shoes At The Beach)

COCK-A-POOP'S  {grin}

Poo-Poo Sacks And The Fate Of Shoes At The Beach

Living here at the beach we try, rarely successfully but, we do try to leave our sandy shoes at the door before we come into the house.  Usually, my kids, their friends, the neighbors and their friends, our friends, friends, relatives and people who inadvertently just wander in to our house, are barefoot to begin with.  It's the beach after all and the best part of living here is wiggling your tootsies in the warm, soft, sand or cooling them off in the cool of the sea.  I don't have a problem with that except that on the walk back from the beach they are walking on dirty, filthy, tar ridden, blacktop street.  Or, they are walking on the sidewalk, which has been walked on by all the people who decided to step up from the  dirty, filthy, tar ridden, blacktop street onto it.  (Insert whiny voice here) - But, Mom, I didn't even walk on the dirty, filthy, tar ridden, blacktop street.  I walked on the sidewalk."

The sidewalk, which is strolled upon by hundreds and thousands of people, (well maybe not hundreds of thousands) but, a LOT of people every day is a tiny bit nasty.  Approximately 1/2, well possibly way more than 1/2 of those people, including me, are walking their dogs on any given day.  Besides exercise, camaraderie, and just checking out what the other dogs have been up to, in the city dogs relieve themselves on the sidewalk. Gross I know, but a fact of city life.  Sometimes said dogs accidentally step onto someone's grass who is remiss enough to have a lawn without a border hedge, a fence or a wall, to relieve themselves.  This is frowned upon by the neighbors, especially if they're looking.  The city is very kind however, to provide little bags on almost every block, for free people, that you may use, for picking up and disposing of pet waste.   All in all, there is only one version of pet waste that you can actually pick up and dispose of, and you know what I mean.

Soooo for the rest, lets just say it's a toss up as to whether you want to walk on the dirty, filthy, tar ridden, blacktop street, or the sidewalk.  Just to be safe, I never leave my house without my flip-flops on.  I'm just tidy germaphobic like that. My kids, their friends, the neighbors and their friends, our friends, friends, relatives and people who inadvertently just wander in to our house aren't always as neurotic particular about fastidiousness as I.  Therefore, what I am trying to say, and I promise I will wrap it up here because I'm even grossing myself out, is that, if I could make everyone remove their feet before entering the house, I would.  But, (so far) I haven't been able to figure out a way to accomplish that.  Just give me time.  So here's the old basket we used to have, for those who actually do wear shoes,  to encourage their removal before entering the house.

We also tend to throw the dogs leashes, a sand bucket and a tennis ball or two in there.
Um, Kate, if you're reading this, Mommy is sorry we are using your sand bucket as a doggy poo- poo-sack holder but, you gotta do what you gotta do.  We'll straighten it out when you get home.  I promise.

As you can see, we need a basket for shoes, because there are a-
lot of them around here on any given day.  These, disregarding the flip-flops on the
top, are shoes which once in a while have to be put int the closet.
"Put your shoes away, this dang basket is not a closet after all!"

I recently stumbled across this treasure.  Now all my problems are over.  Well,  not actually all my problems but, I'll spare you that for another day. When I found this treasure I thought that it looked like it had just been dragged in by the sea.  It didn't.  I had to pay cash for it.  I just loved the patina and the rust and the feel of this old basket,so she became mine.

Would she become a home for some sweet lavender I picked up on my shopping excursion as well?  Nope.

Would she find a home on my son's beach cruiser?
Not!

She now lives on our front porch where she replaced the tatty old basket which had grown too tatty and too dilapidated to hold all the shoes of all my kids, their friends, the neighbors and their friends, our friends, friends, relatives and people who inadvertently just wander in to our house.

Tidy, waterproof, kid proof, old, yet still a beauty.  Kind of how I like to think of myself.  I've found a way to reuse her and I've given her a new lease on life.  Kind of what I need to do for myself.  I think she is very happy here on the front porch of our cottage.  She's just perfect and I love her.  How about you?

I'm sorry I posted about doggy doo here.  It was necessary for the crux of the story.  Crux of the story?  For those of you with a weak stomach I apologize for not warning you first.  Living here at the beach isn't always so glamorous after all, and I just wanted to make y'all feel better about that.  Now I consider it is my duty to help you move on from here, and the psychological damage which my wording may have inflicted on your psyche.  To recover from what you have just read, so unsuspectingly, I am now going to engage your immune system in some heavy duty therapy so words like poo poo and doggy doo will never bother or irritate your sensitive self again.  Ready?

Doggy doo, poo poo, doggy doo, poo poo, doggy doo, poo poo, dog poo, dog doo, doggy poo doo,  poopy dog doo, dog doo poop.  Are you feeling better yet?  All in all, I'm feeling that this whole thing is a success.  How about you?

You're welcome.

And Katie Girl, if you're still with me here, did you notice anything different about our new basket besides the unbridled beauty of it?  Besides the fact that there are not 14 shoes that belong in the closet in it?

Yup, it's true Sweet Pea.  I removed all the poo poo sacks!  And you know why?  Because your mommy loves you more than all the dog poo sacks used on the streets of Solana Beach every day.  And that's a whole lot!

Now, let me ask you this my friends, and those of you crazy brave enough to still be reading this post.  How many parents do you think have used that awesome term of endearment on their baby girl?  I know, I know.  I have me some mad parenting skills.

Bye bye 'till next time and,

Blessings,

Tia

Camera da letto misura per una principessa

Bedroom, fit for a Princess!

Remember my baby?  She just turned Sweet 16.  And, she is.  Most of the time.  She is after all, a teenager.  But as teenagers go, she's as sweet as they come.

Her bedroom is taking shape.  I thought you might like to see some of the touches we added since we moved in.  Don't tell her I showed you, but that's her childhood bunny, front and center.  Sixteen year olds know everything and are very mature and wise you know,  but they still love their Cuppy.

We used pine, planks on the walls, I white washed with a milky stain.  Her bed was my childhood bed (so it's definitely an antique)! Mosquito netting was hung because it's romantic and her mommy won't put screens on her windows since they look so pretty without them.  A fan was added onto her light, to assure that the netting blows gently in the breeze even when there isn't one outside

We moved back into our newly remodeled cottage by the sea a couple of weeks ago.  It took a very long time to remodel .  Waaay longer than expected;  about 8 months longer.  It's so beautiful and it is so awesome, to be back in my own bed that,  it was worth the wait.  Now I have a million little projects to do to make my house a home but, that's the part I love.  I'm a nester.  Now I'm having a ball re-feathering my nest!  I'm in my element here friends.

See up there, the beach 5th from the top?  That's where our cottage sits in the line of beautiful beaches, along our little part of the coast of Southern California.

Did I mention that my baby (youngest of 5) turned 16 last month?  Yeah, well when your baby turns 16 you're gonna talk about it too.  You know that nest I'm happily re-feathering?  In just a couple of years it will be empty, and I'm already worried about that.  I'm a worrier.  But anyhoo-

We had a  party to celebrate some of the July/August birthday's in our family.  It was also a good excuse to have some of the family over.  The handsome kid in the middle is my eldest son, Cooper.  He was born only 12 hours before his cousin Connor who stands on his left.  Twenty years ago, as I lay snuggling my new son, my mother-in-law and my oldest daughter Tara excitedly bounced into the room, stood at the foot of my bed and with conspiring little smiles on their faces, they informed me that my sister-in-law was giving birth at that very moment to her first son!  We ended up sharing a room in the same hospital, and while I gave her nursing tips; she showed me that there was a mirror in the fold out lunch tray with which you could see to apply your lipstick.  She's a girly girl, my sister-in-law.  She wears lipstick and high heels every day.  I wear flip flops and chap stick every day.  The cousins shared a bassinet however, when Cooper cried my sis-in-law pushed his little bassi right out into the hall so she could get some sleep.  Um, nurse, nurse?  Could you please bring my baby back?

I digress.  Camera da letto misura per una principessa, there is an extra bed.  It's a trundle bed just in case there are sisters  or cousins or friends who want to have a slumber party here.  There has been a slumber party here practically every night since we moved in.  My baby is a social butterfly.

The big comfy chair was not my idea.  It recently came out of storage, where I had blessedly forgotten all about it.  I begged and pleaded that, we  not put that godforsaken thing in this pretty, new bedroom find a worthy new home for this circa 1970s, well loved chair.  The more I begged, the more my girls loved that chair.  Apparently memories were forged on that chair.  Childhood bonds were created which, may be broken, lest that chair not have a place of honor in the bedroom again.  Mere acquaintances became the best of friends, hearts were healed, for God's sake you would think people had given birth on that chair.

The dog now sleeps there quite happily.

This chest of drawers was part of the master bedroom furniture pre remodel.  Since hers is such a large room, and we now have built-ins in ours,  Maggie inherited it.  With just a little white paint and some fun new knobs this bureau and mirror will take on the flavor of this room very soon.   I'll keep you updated,  it's a work in process at this point.  Maggie hand painted some of the shingles left over from the siding we used on the cottage.  Sweet little beach scenes in pretty water colors, seen there on the right of the bureau.

Don't look now, but be sure to come back later because, I'll be posting more on camera da letto misura per una principessa.  She has a darling little vanity which I am restoring and adding seashells to!

In the meantime always remember this.

Here then, I share with you, the sunset at Fletcher's Cove last night.
BLESSINGS!

Tia
